code-server
code-server runs a VS Code environment on your own machine and exposes it through a browser.
About this project
code-server runs a VS Code environment on a machine you control and exposes it to a web browser. Source files, tests, compilation and other intensive work stay on that host, while another device acts as the browser client. The project is a hosted development environment rather than an account on a maintenance-free editing service.
The official README gives a Linux host with WebSockets enabled, at least 1 GB of RAM and two virtual CPUs as its baseline. Its installation script can first show a dry run; manual packages and provider deployment guides are also documented. Once installed, users follow the printed startup instructions and open the configured address in a browser.
The repository is MIT-licensed. Remote access still requires the authentication and secure-connection setup described in the official guide, and the host needs updates and ordinary service administration. Browser access to a terminal and source tree gives significant access to that machine, so the documented authentication boundary matters.
