About this project

CrossPaste shares clipboard content between devices running its application on a local network. The desktop project supports text, HTML, rich text, links, images, and files, alongside a local clipboard history. Its documentation describes local storage and encrypted transfers, so ordinary desktop use does not require setting up a separate cloud server.

Nearby devices appear automatically when CrossPaste can discover them. A user adds a trusted device by entering the token shown on that target device. The device settings can independently allow or disable receiving and sending, and removing a device means it must be verified again before reconnecting.

The desktop downloads cover macOS, Windows, and Linux, with processor-specific packages. Sharing still depends on a reachable local network: the FAQ identifies blocked multicast, UDP port 5353, router settings, or security software as discovery problems. Basic clipboard exchange is graphical; optional command-line and AI integrations are outside this reviewed use path.

Why it is worth a look

  • Finished desktop packages are available for macOS, Windows, and Linux
  • Clipboard sharing uses a local network and local storage
  • A graphical device-pairing tutorial explains which devices can exchange content
02

Before you use it

  • Each device must run CrossPaste and be reachable on the local network
  • Firewalls or blocked multicast can prevent nearby-device discovery
  • Pair only devices you trust, and review clipboard contents before sharing
