About this project

Firefly III is a self-hosted personal finance manager for recording income and expenses. Budgets, categories, and tags organize transactions, while reports provide views of money entering and leaving accounts. The application uses double-entry bookkeeping. A typical workflow starts with entering or importing transactions, then classifying them and reviewing the resulting budget and financial records over time.

Recurring transactions and rules help process repeated activity. Piggy banks track savings goals, and the feature list includes multiple currencies and income-and-expense reporting. Besides the web interface, a REST JSON API exposes application functionality to other tools. Import tools and the API provide integration routes; they do not imply automatic support for every bank or external service.

The official project describes installation on a user's own server, with Docker and Kubernetes options. Operating the instance and maintaining its financial records remain part of that deployment. An official demonstration environment allows exploration of the interface and sample administration, while a separately maintained instance is needed for keeping one's own ongoing financial records.
