A media center that organizes personal videos, music and photos for remote-control use in the living room.

Jellyfin organizes a personal collection of movies, television shows, music, and photographs for playback on connected devices. Its quick-start workflow begins with installing a central server, completing the setup wizard, creating an administrator account, and adding media. Clients then connect to that server. The collection and server settings are established by the person operating the installation.
Server administration and playback clients have separate roles. Official documentation covers client applications, networking, plugins, and hardware-accelerated transcoding. These settings affect how a collection is accessed and played on different devices. Hardware acceleration is a server configuration topic for supported hardware, rather than a feature that can be assumed to be enabled on every installation.
Installation instructions cover Windows, macOS, Linux, containers, and supported NAS environments. Maintaining a library also involves its metadata and server configuration; the documentation provides separate backup-and-restore guidance for these. Migration, networking, and monitoring are distinct administration topics, allowing an operator to address ongoing server management alongside the initial task of importing and playing their media.
