About this project

KeePassXC manages passwords and related information in an encrypted KDBX database file. Entries hold usernames, passwords, addresses, attachments, and notes, organized into groups with names and icons. Users open a database, find an entry, retrieve or edit its contents, and save their changes. The database can be placed in a location they choose.

Tools include search, password and passphrase generation, automatic typing, and clipboard operations. A separately configured browser extension provides website integration and passkey support in supported browsers. Additional features include TOTP generation, custom attributes, attachments, entry history, and database reports. Existing credentials can be imported from supported formats, including CSV and several other password managers.

Official desktop applications are available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. A database may be stored locally or in a cloud-synchronized location. The guide distinguishes the encrypted file from an unlocked session: information is decrypted into computer memory while in use. Browser integration, database storage, and protection of the running session therefore remain separate concerns.
