About this project

linkding stores web links in a browser interface with tags, search and bulk editing. Users can add notes, mark links for later reading and organize a bookmark collection without depending on a browser-specific bookmark store.

Browser extensions, a bookmarklet, an API and HTML import/export provide ways to add and move links. The service can retrieve page metadata and supports optional archiving; the plus container includes additional dependencies for that workflow.

A basic instance uses the official Docker image with persistent storage and SQLite. Accounts and optional authentication integrations need configuration. Backups should cover the database and any saved archive data.

Why it is worth a look

  • Tags, search and bulk editing
  • Markdown notes and read-later state
02

Before you use it

  • Create the administrator account deliberately
  • Persist and back up bookmark data
  • Assess the extra footprint of optional archiving

  • Markdown notes and read-later state
  • Browser extensions and bookmarklet
  • HTML import/export
  • Bookmark sharing and user accounts
  • Optional page archiving and REST API

Who it fits

Good for

Individuals maintaining research links; Users who want tags and notes across browsers

Not a fit

You need a complete note-taking workspace; You want no server maintenance

Getting started

  1. Prepare a supported container host and persistent storage.
  2. Run sissbruecker/linkding with the documented port 9090 and /etc/linkding/data mount; use the plus variant only if its archiving dependencies are needed.
  3. Create the documented superuser and configure the intended authentication and protected access.
  4. Import or add a few representative bookmarks, then verify persistent database and archive backups.
