Nikola
A Codex skill for Chinese hand-drawn explainer videos through stroke-story rendering or program animation, with editable assets and timed outputs.
About this project
Nikola is a Codex skill for producing hand-drawn explainer videos, with Chinese knowledge explanations as its documented focus. It offers two distinct production routes: progressive stroke-story rendering from artwork, and program animation for cards, diagrams and precise labels. Prompt-only output is also possible, without treating it as a rendered finished video.
The documented installation copies the repository into Codex skills and runs a setup check. Scripts require Python 3.10 or later; a complete MP4 needs FFmpeg and FFprobe, while program animation also needs Node, a browser and HyperFrames. Stroke rendering can use local image algorithms without model weights or a GPU when suitable artwork and narration are already available.
Original skill instructions, scripts and documentation are Apache-2.0, the bundled stroke-rendering backend is MIT, and example-media CC BY 4.0 covers only material the author can license. GSAP, HyperFrames, character and brand rights remain separate. Default cloud narration requires authorized voice-service access, or a suitable supplied audio track; it is not an included offline voice service.

Project recommendation
Suggests that knowledge-video creators try Nikola and describes its video, subtitle and asset outputs.
Source labels distinguish recommendations, neutral mentions and the author’s own releases. Commercial relationships are unknown unless an author relationship is shown. Worthary reviews project eligibility separately.
Why it is worth a look
- Stroke-by-stroke story animation from prepared artwork
- Program animation with HTML, SVG and a timed rendering workflow
Before you use it
- Needs a compatible Codex host and route-specific runtimes
- Cloud narration or newly generated artwork may require paid services
- Check example media, vendor, animation-library, voice and brand rights separately
- Prompt output is not evidence of a finished rendered video

What it can do
- Stroke-by-stroke story animation from prepared artwork
- Program animation with HTML, SVG and a timed rendering workflow
- Video, subtitle, timeline and editable-asset outputs
Who it fits
Preparing editable hand-drawn knowledge explainers; Combining narration, drawings and precise animated labels
A standalone video editor with no agent host; Assuming every sample image, character or voice is licensed for your use
Getting started
- Clone the official repository into the Codex skills directory and run its setup check
- Choose prompt-only, stroke-story or program-animation output and prepare that route's dependencies
- Supply suitable artwork and authorized narration, then verify a representative render before making the full MP4
