About this project

Zen organizes browser tabs into workspaces associated with tasks, projects, or themes. Users name workspaces, choose icons, and switch between tab groups from the sidebar. A workspace can also use a default container for its browsing sessions. This connects the visible grouping of tabs with a chosen account context inside the same browser profile.

Split View displays up to four tabs together. A tab can be dragged from the sidebar beside an existing page, or a link can open in a new split tab. Views can be rearranged into horizontal, vertical, or grid layouts. Individual tabs can leave the split, and the associated keyboard shortcuts are configurable in settings.

Containers use Firefox-derived session separation, allowing different accounts on the same website to retain separate cookies and login states. The documentation explicitly limits this separation: browsing history and extensions are not isolated between containers. Workspaces and containers therefore organize projects and account sessions, but they are not equivalent to entirely independent browser environments.

Decision guide
01

Why it is worth a look

  • Organize tabs for different projects separately
  • View two pages side by side
  • Windows, macOS, and Linux download paths
02

Before you use it

  • The official site still labels it Beta; Twilight is an experimental build
  • Keep the original browser's bookmarks and account-recovery information before starting
  • Do not equate visual customization with a completed security audit

What it can do

  • Workspace-based tab management
  • Compact browsing interface
  • Glance previews
  • Two-page split view

Who it fits

Good for

Frequently opening many tabs and needing separate workspaces; Willingness to accept Beta product iteration

Not a fit

Critical work that cannot accommodate browser Beta changes

Getting started

  1. Choose the regular Release rather than Twilight from the official download page
  2. Import a small set of bookmarks after installation for a trial
  3. Check compatibility with common websites before making it the default browser
