View project →A CAD tool for creating three-dimensional models of real objects using parameters and dimensional constraints.
FreeCAD is used for parametric three dimensional design of real objects. A workflow can start with a two dimensional sketch constrained by dimensions and geometric relationships, then build a solid part from it. Model history and properties support later changes. Changing a parameter triggers recalculation, allowing design revisions to follow the relationships already established in the model.
Workbenches organize different kinds of work. Part design handles solid features and Boolean operations, assembly establishes relationships between components, and technical drawing produces two dimensional drawings from models. The official feature overview also covers building information modeling, finite element analysis and computer aided manufacturing, connecting geometry with subsequent analysis, documentation or manufacturing steps in the design process.
FreeCAD runs on Windows, macOS and Linux. It saves its own documents and exchanges data through formats including STEP, IGES, STL, OBJ, DXF, SVG and IFC. Python provides a route for macros and additional tools. Native parametric documents, exchanged geometry and custom tools therefore serve different roles within the same design environment and its wider workflow.
Use an officially listed operating system and architecture; Have application installation permissions and sufficient local storage; Some requirements have not been verified. Check the official setup instructions.
