LocalSend transfers files and text between nearby devices over a local network. Both devices run the application, and the sender selects photos, videos, documents, or text before choosing a recipient. It does not require an account or an upload to cloud storage. Official clients cover Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. This includes everyday device-to-device sharing.
Received files normally go into the Downloads folder, with another destination available through settings. The official site describes HTTPS transfers and optional PIN verification. Files and text follow the same general sharing process, so the receiving device and destination are part of the transfer workflow rather than a separate online storage account.
The devices must be reachable across the network. The repository documents firewall requirements and explains that wireless client isolation, guest networks, or a VPN can interfere with discovery. LocalSend has no built-in automatic updater. Its maintainers therefore favor store or package-manager installations for updates; manually downloaded applications require separate attention to version maintenance.
