View project →Synchronize and share files on a server of your choice, with calendar and contact collaboration extensions.
Nextcloud stores files, contacts, and calendars on a server chosen by its users. Desktop and mobile clients synchronize files across devices, while sharing lets other people access selected material. Individuals can use one server to organize information across their devices; groups can use the same system to exchange files and collaborate around shared resources.
Applications extend the server beyond file storage. The official repository lists Calendar, Contacts, Mail, and video chat, with additional applications available through its app store. The functionality of a particular instance therefore depends on which applications are installed and enabled. The app catalog describes available extensions, rather than a guarantee that every installation includes them.
Official documentation covers installing a server, using preconfigured environments, and choosing a hosting provider. Synchronization clients connect to that server and do not replace it. User, administrator, and developer manuals have distinct purposes, and documentation is organized by server version. Configuration and upgrade work should follow the manual corresponding to the instance being maintained.
Hosting providers listed on the official website offer a starting path without self-managed operations; Confirmed requirements: Command line, Docker, An always-on device or service; Some requirements have not been verified. Check the official setup instructions.
Households needing control over where files are stored; Small teams willing to maintain a collaboration service
Unwilling to maintain a self-hosted service and not considering hosting providers; Only accepting a workflow without checking permissions and data backups
