Navidrome is a self-hosted server for a personal music collection, making existing audio files available through browsers and mobile clients. It reads metadata, recognizes compilations and multidisc albums, and discovers new files and metadata when the library changes. The workflow begins with a user's music files, which the server scans and makes available for listening.
Besides its web player, Navidrome works with clients using Subsonic-compatible protocols. Users maintain their own playlists, favorites, and play counts. Lyrics can come from embedded metadata or sidecar files. On-the-fly transcoding can be configured per user and player, so the source format, chosen client, and server settings all contribute to how a particular track is played.
The repository lists binaries for Linux, macOS, Windows, and Raspberry Pi environments, along with Docker and hosted options. The music collection must be accessible to the server. It also distinguishes releases from the potentially unstable development branch: installing the latest repository commit is not equivalent to selecting a published release intended for normal use.
