PhotoPrism is a self-hosted application for browsing, organizing, and sharing photographs and videos on a private or cloud server. It indexes media and uses image content, locations, and existing metadata to organize the collection. Users access the library through a browser, and its progressive web application can be added to phone, tablet, or desktop home screens.
Search filters can combine labels, location, resolution, color, and other properties. The documented feature set includes face recognition, maps, Live Photos, RAW images, and video. Metadata support includes Exif, XMP, and Google Photos information. WebDAV provides file access, while compatible tools such as PhotoSync offer a separate route for transferring photographs from mobile devices into the collection.
Setup documentation includes Docker Compose and supports SQLite or MariaDB databases. Indexing and RAW processing impose additional resource requirements that depend on the workload and hardware. Maps and reverse geocoding use external services including PhotoPrism and MapTiler. Running the library on one's own server therefore does not mean that every available feature operates without external requests.
