About this project

Linkwarden is a collaborative bookmark manager that preserves pages as screenshots, PDFs, and single HTML files alongside their URLs. Those saved copies can remain available when an original page changes or disappears. The workflow starts with collecting a link, organizing it into a collection, and then reading, annotating, or sharing the saved material as needed.

Collections and subcollections use names, descriptions, and tags, with full-text search, filtering, and sorting for retrieval. Reader mode supports highlights and notes. Shared work can use member permissions or publicly available material. Browser extensions and mobile applications provide capture routes, while RSS, images, and PDFs also have documented import or saving capabilities within the application.

The project offers self-hosting and a subscribed cloud service; mobile use requires an account connected to the chosen service. Optional features include local AI tagging and saving pages to the Internet Archive, the latter involving an external service. Single sign-on has a stated boundary: it is available for enterprise or self-hosted use, not necessarily every offering.

Decision guide
01

Why it is worth a look

  • Web screenshots, PDF archives, reading, and annotations in one application
  • First-party usage or installation documentation is available
  • A verifiable formal release record is available
02

Before you use it

  • The official Cloud service is the simplest starting path; self-hosting requires server maintenance

Not a fit

Unwilling to maintain a self-hosted service and not considering hosting providers; Only accepting a workflow without checking permissions and data backups

Getting started

  1. Create an account through the official Cloud service or open the self-hosting documentation
  2. For self-hosting, configure the database, search service, and persistent directories
  3. Create a private collection and add a test link
  4. Confirm successful archiving before inviting members
