About this project

SilverBullet is a browser-based Markdown knowledge-management tool that organizes pages within a Space. Live preview supports writing, while bidirectional links connect notes and a page picker helps navigation. Outlining and task-related features extend the editing workflow, allowing text, page relationships, and outstanding items to be maintained together in the same collection of notes.

Page content can also form queryable objects through an integrated database and SLIQ queries. Space Lua provides programmable commands, templates, widgets, and generated content. These extend ordinary note editing rather than defining every basic interaction. Users adopting queries or scripts maintain the corresponding syntax and configuration as part of the behavior they add to their space.

The installation guide covers server binaries and Docker on local or remote machines. Full functionality requires a TLS layer; plain LAN HTTP has online-only limitations. The server filesystem should be case-sensitive. Network storage or synchronization tools can affect timestamps and consistency, making filesystem behavior relevant to deployment rather than merely the browser used to connect.

Decision guide
01

Why it is worth a look

  • Live Markdown preview and bidirectional links in one application
  • First-party usage or installation documentation is available
  • A verifiable formal release record is available
02

Before you use it

  • Advanced customization requires learning queries or Lua; basic notes do not require programming
  • A case-sensitive server filesystem is strongly recommended
  • Desktop installation details were not verified in this round; do not assume the desktop edition has no operational requirements

What it can do

  • Live Markdown preview
  • Bidirectional links
  • Tasks and outlining
  • Query database
  • Custom Lua extensions

Who it fits

Good for

People who prefer plain text and wiki links; People willing to learn queries and extensions gradually

Not a fit

Expecting advanced customization without learning syntax or scripts; Unable to meet the server filesystem requirements

Getting started

  1. First choose a local single-file server or Docker from the official installation page
  2. Choose a new notes directory and try the application locally
  3. Deploy a server and TLS when cross-device access is needed
  4. Back up Markdown files before introducing script extensions
