A BitTorrent client with desktop, web and command line interfaces.
View project →A graphical client for managing BitTorrent downloads and uploads.
Transmission is a BitTorrent client for managing file transfers through that protocol. Its desktop interface provides access to transfer tasks, with controls including speed limits, tracker editing and peer blocklists. These expose transfer and connection settings through the application, allowing users to configure how tasks operate without working directly with the underlying protocol implementation.
The documented feature set also includes watched directories and a web interface. A watched directory supplies an entry point for new torrent tasks, while the web interface allows control through a browser. Together with transfer settings, these provide different ways to organize ongoing download work, from direct desktop interaction to operating a separately running service.
The repository describes a native macOS interface, GTK and Qt interfaces for Linux and BSD, and a Qt interface for Windows. A headless daemon can run on servers or router devices and be controlled through the web interface or remote tools. Other tools examine, create and edit torrent files, separating file preparation from the interface used to manage transfers.
